So opening day didn't go as well as we all hoped, but it was awesome to be there and I will have an extensive picture post tomorrow, but here is a little something from the museum in the new park to cheer everyone up.
(Ooooooohhhhh Yeeeeaaaaaa!)
(Do you remember why Derek Jeter is a first ballot HOFer? Cause I forgot.)
[
Ed Note: There are also these]
(...and a close up for the Mets fans out there.)
They sure are pretty aren't they?
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed. I wonder where they keep the other 20?
ReplyDeleteOne thing I would take exception with: It was also the Mariano Rivera, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte era.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, nostalgia and pining for things almost a decade old! Ahahahaha, delicious.

ReplyDeleteYeah I don't necessarily agree with "The Derek Jeter Era." How about the "90's Dynasty?" A slight to the others mentioned.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would strongly disagree that Jeter's numbers make him a first ballot Hall of Famer. May I present this guy:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/trammal01.shtml
and his HOF vote percentage:
15.7% (2002), 14.1% (2003), 13.8% (2004), 16.9% (2005), 17.7% (2006), 13.4% (2007), 18.2% (2008) and 17.4% (2009)
If you think Derek Jeter's numbers are considerably better than his, I would like to smoke whatever drugs you're using.
Smarty, maybe you're right about the first ballot HoF, but Jeter's numbers are much better than Trammel's:
ReplyDeleteAllan Trammel's Career OPS+: 110
Number of times Jeter's OPS+ was below 110: 3/15 (1996, 1997, 2008)
(That's adjusted for the eras they played in)
A few other numbers, (keep in mind Trammel played 20 seasons and Jeter is in his 15th):
Hits:
Trammel: 2365
Jeter: 2547
Homers:
Trammel: 185
Jeter: 208
RsBI:
Trammel: 1003
Jeter: 1009
SBs:
Trammel: 236
Jeter: 237
His numbers might not make him a surefire first ballot HoFer now, but give him 3-4 more years and they certainly will.
And if you want what I'm smoking, I can give you the number to my delivery service.
ReplyDelete162-game averages:
ReplyDeleteAVG SLG OPS+ HR RBI SB Fld%
Jeter .316 .458 120 17 82 22 .975
Tram. .285 .415 110 13 71 17 .977
No doubt Jeter is better, but neither line is screaming FIRST BALLOT!!!!! at me.
Smarty, do the WS titles count for anything? Not being cynical, serious question. If he had contributed to 1 title, I'd say "no". But 4 in 5 years...means something to me, and I root for the enemy. Jeter will be voted in on the first ballot, no question.
