Before this year, as a Yankee fan, I really never thought that I would be depending on A.J. Burnett for anything. I used to hate him. Everything about the guy, from his angry sneer to his demonstrative asshole presence on the mound. His freakish gifts and his inconsistent performances. He was an easy target.
No more.
Burnett will be donning the Road Grays today and trying to salvage at least some semblance of dignity from what has been a very disappointing start to the season. Win today and the Yankees are one game from .500, lose and they'll need to sweep the Royals to get back there.
You can use this as a game thread if you have a way of following the game at work. See you in the comments section.
You don't need no gypsy to tell you why,
You can't let one precious day slip by,
Look inside yourself, and if you don't see what you want,
Maybe sometimes then you don't,
But leave your mind alone and just get high.
Sick catch by Damon!
ReplyDeleteI'll take your word for it, since I'm follwing along with John "Silky" Sterling and Wailin' Suzyn via the interwebs.
ReplyDeleteGreat start! Only took 2 games for a starter to get a K.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, and it was two in the first inning!
ReplyDeleteYo did deadspin bite your YES screenshot of the empty stands at camden?
ReplyDeleteAh they threw you a link. Very nice.

Fire Girardi. These guys can’t hit.
frits - Thanks. I sent that one in earlier. They are good about linking back.
ReplyDelete"Here's the bottom third for the Yankees: Ranson, Garnder and Molina" ~ John Sterling
ReplyDeleteThings I would like to hear as infrequently as possible.
Sterling guarantees Gardner will be running. We shall see...
ReplyDeleteSterling is the emperor of this shit. Gardener will be running. So it shall be written, so it shall be done.
ReplyDeleteI like to say "Brett Gardener" in my South Park newsreel voice. Try it. Phil Garner used to be great for this as well.
ReplyDeleteSterling, you prescient bastard!
ReplyDeletenot to go all Lo Hud commentariat on you here, but is it time for a classic Captain rally kill DP?
ReplyDeleteDominos: Where prices are so low... they're ridiculously low.
ReplyDelete"That's gonna be a base hit... fields, fires, and got him!" .... Do we have a new "It is high, it is far, it is...caught" on our hands?
ReplyDeleteI think we do... that was pretty bad. He overreacted so fast he had time to correct himself.
ReplyDeleteThe only substitute for having no way to watch or listen to the game...slick rick playlist via Pandora.
ReplyDeleteBWS - Brett Gardner has a message for you

"Molina has the best arm in the majors"
ReplyDelete10 seconds later...
"And the throw is low and NOT in time"
Do John and Suz say "he almost got it" or "just missed it" as though it's a good thing? Like they're giving out A's for effort? Just me?
ReplyDeleteYeah, especially Suz, she's like a fucking kindergarten teacher...
ReplyDeleteAnd despite nearly having the name of a Phish song, I despise Brian Roberts.
I'll go ahead and be the first asshole to say it: Swisher over Nady, every time.
ReplyDeleteNady is overrrated
ReplyDeleteI agree... one is due to have a bounceback year and the other is due for a regression. Too bad Nady's salary doesn't look like much or a bargain anymore or else he could have been a decent trade piece.
ReplyDeleteSchiff, I agree. He got on base in both pinch hit appearances, and he has some pretty sick aviator-esque sunglasses.
ReplyDeleteBig K right there.

SUCK IT BALTIMORE!!!!!
ReplyDelete"You're on the MARK, Teixeira" ~ JS
ReplyDeleteAnd there we have it.
Boo that fuckers
ReplyDeleteWasn't it Swisher's pinch hit double that sparked the failed rally on Opening Day? I have a notable Swisher bias from my days at MLB Productions because he was just so hilarious in every piece of footage that featured him. Seems like the kind of guy that would get you fired up though if you were hitting behind him. And he's versatile.
ReplyDeleteJaawn, did you evah notice that his home runs ahh very majestic? (Susan Waldman)
ReplyDeleteAnother Cano walk...wow!
ReplyDeleteI think Cano has already surpassed his total walks from last season.
ReplyDeleteNICK SWISHER BITCHES!!!!WOOO HOOO!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I'm sorry, was some asshole saying something about Nick Swisher?
ReplyDeleteYou might say that was just in the... Nick.. of time.
ReplyDeleteThat home run was a real... Swisher.. sweet
ReplyDeleteWould you call that one a Swish Smash?
ReplyDelete"That was just jolly Old St. Nick hitting a home run right there" ~ JS
ReplyDeleteBut I like all three of yours Schiff
"Pavano has given up 5 runs in the bottom of the first to Texas"
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzyn. Can you please say that again?
Fucking Luke Scott. The dude is 31... I'm calling steroids.
ReplyDeleteYeah, he sort of came out of nowhere, huh?

The strikeout of Huff will be the turning point of the season.
Have these people ever watched a baseball game?
They certainly have never followed a full season.
ReplyDeleteThat was a quick top half, did a few minutes of work and Baltimore is back up.
ReplyDeleteSwish! Again!
ReplyDeleteStart hyping someone else up, Schiff!
Throwing errors by opposing pitchers warm my soul.
ReplyDeleteFull disclosure: I've got work to do. I'll be back if something interesting happens.
